Could you survive the Storytel – Orwell 1984 escape room?

Audiobook service Storytel released a remastered version of George Orwell’s classic 1984 in audiobook format. Mellakka Events designed and implemented an escape room game based on the theme that both influencers and Storytel customers could try to survive.
To mark the publication of the 1984 audiobook, Storytel wanted to offer consumers, influencers and the media the opportunity to play an escape room game in Helsinkii designed around the subject of the book, i.e. restricting freedom of speech.
Mellakka Events was responsible for the ideation and conceptualisation of the escape room game, including event planning, production, the invitation process for influencers, media work and graphic production. The game was free for everyone and became very popular. The escape room was implemented together with aMazed Games, which previously did the Iik!Week Horror Festival at Linnanmäki Amusement Park. Reporters Without Borders acted as the partner for the escape room.The consumer slots were booked very quickly. MTV’s current affairs program Viiden jälkeen made a report about the audiobook and the launch, participated in the game themselves and interviewed representatives of Reporters Without Borders.
