Mellakka Events had the honour of taking the 160-year-old Finnish state railway group VR on its next journey. Mellakka’s most important task was not only to communicate the company’s long history, but also to keep the focus clearly on the future. This consideration influenced everything we did, starting from the selection of venues.

Mellakka Events was tasked with planning VR’s 160th anniversary celebrations in 2022.

The daytime celebrations and main programme were held in the centre of Helsinki at a cinema called Bio Rex, from where the party moved to the historic Scandic Grand Central hotel, which has served as VR’s headquarters for many years.

The theme of the celebrations drew inspiration from the 160-year history of VR while looking towards the future. The day consisted of distinguished speeches about VR and Finland, while the evening focused on socialising and music.

Mellakka Events was responsible for the conceptualisation of the event, the turnkey production, the invitation process, the translations of the different language versions of all the materials and the script.

The main celebrations were attended by 350 guests.
